Shillington, PA Apartments for Rent

Settlers began moving into Shillington, Pennsylvania in the mid-1700s, but it wasn’t incorporated as a borough until 1908. This quaint suburb is just three miles southwest of downtown Reading across the Schuylkill River and is a beautiful spot for renting apartments.

A large section of Shillington was once a poorhouse called Angelica Farm. A poorhouse was a 19th-century government-run facility for the needy. Shillington’s poorhouse was built around 1824. Novelist John Updike, a Shillington native, used the poorhouse as inspiration for his first novel.

Shillington Memorial Park is a large community park with a swimming pool, several pavilions, a playground, tot lot, and tennis courts. It hosts the annual summer concert series, Concerts in the Park. Nolde Forest State Park, located just two miles south of Shillington, contains 665 acres of forest, streams, ponds, and a network of trails.

For those renting apartments in Berks County, the suburb of Shillington offers picturesque parks, historical charm, and nearby downtown Reading.
