There’s a lot happening in Nashville: the Grand Ole Opry, LP Field, Vanderbilt University, the Parthenon – when a city is this rich in culture, history, and American folklore, you know you are somewhere special. Nashville is the county seat of Davidson County, one of the busiest counties in the state. Established in 1783, Davidson County is one of the oldest counties in the state. The Cumberland River drew colonists to the area, many active in the fur trade.
Nashville is the hub of the metro area and is known as the home of country music. Downtown Nashville contains theaters, restaurants, museums, and shops. Tourism is a major industry, but Nashville also has thriving publishing, banking, and health care industries.
In addition to the Grand Ole Opry House, Nashville is home to the Tennessee Performing Arts Center, the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, the Country Music Hall of Fame, and Ryman Auditorium. The CMA Music Festival and the Tennessee State Fair are two events that draw tourists to the area every year.
Music isn’t the only draw to Davidson County, however. Sports are also a major draw – LP Field is home to NFL’s Tennessee Titans and Bridgestone Arena is home to the NHL’s Nashville Predators. The Fairgrounds Speedway hosts NASCAR events and is one of the oldest tracks in the US.
In addition to Vanderbilt University, Davidson County is home to the Art Institute of Tennessee-Nashville, Belmont University, Fisk University, Tennessee State University, and several other colleges and universities.
