Melrose-Waverly Neighborhood

Melrose-Waverly is a large Nashville neighborhood that encompasses two smaller neighborhoods that lend it its name: Melrose and Waverly. The Waverly section is named after the home owned by A.W. Putnam. The original Putnam farm site is located in Waverly. Waverly also features a designated historic district, Historic Waverly.

Historic Waverly is situated in the heart of historic Nashville. The architecture of the homes in Historic Waverly are prime illustrations of Queen Anne, Classical Revival, and Bungalow. Many of the homes represent early twentieth-century style and have been well preserved. The neighborhood contains a mixture of homeowners, renters, and small businesses.

Waverly is minutes away from Belmont University, George Peabody College, and Vanderbilt University. There is a large concentration of apartment options that surround these institutions. A popular area for residents is along 8th Avenue. This area offers a variety of shops, restaurants, and the Zanies Comedy nightclub.

Approximately 1 mile to the south of Waverly is Sevier Park. The site of the historic home “Sunnyside”, Sevier Park is a popular destination for residents to relax or enjoy the scenic view. Leashed dogs are also permitted in Sevier Park. Since its opening in the late 1940s, Sevier Park has expanded with the additions of a playground, tennis courts, athletic fields and swimming pool.

Melrose is the section of the neighborhood that is just south of the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. Within a short drive of the Melrose-Waverly neighborhood, residents can reach a large number of popular Nashville destinations, such as Lane Motor Museum, Trevecca Nazarene University, Fort Negley Park, Rose Park, Reservoir Park, Sevier Park, Belmont University, One Hundred Oaks Regional Mall Shopping Center, and Willowbrook Commons. Melrose-Waverly enjoys a very convenient location in Nashville, due in large part to the close access of Interstates 440, 65, and 24.
