Northwest Hills – Far West

Northwest Hills – Far West is a cozy, upscale neighborhood in the northwest Austin Hill Country. Large houses and large lots make this area a great place for families and those looking for a more spacious, suburban lifestyle.

Houses in this area are large and made of brick and limestone. The lots are larger than more densely packed areas of Austin, creating a natural, more suburban setting. Far West Boulevard, which bisects the neighborhood, is home to apartment complexes that house University of Texas students, young professionals and families.

Though traffic is prevalent in the area, well-kept sidewalks and crosswalks at intersection make the area accessible to pedestrians and cyclists. This neighborhood, located in the 78731 zip code, also has public transportation available to it, though getting around by car is ideal. It is bordered by Loop 1 on the eastern side, so it is easy to get to and from other areas of Austin. The northern boundary of the area is Spicewood Springs, while the southern boundary is made by the winding FM 2222.

Murchison Elementary School is a fixture in the community. Part of the Austin Independent School District, students, families and residents can use their track, field and playground as a park area during non-school hours. Allen Memorial County Park, located in the southeastern corner of the neighborhood, also offers residents and visitors green space in which to play, picnic or exercise.

Northwest Hills – Far West has all of the amenities of urban living, including easy access to grocery stores, Starbucks and restaurants. Several large companies also reside in the area including VCA Animal Hospital, a center for disabled care and other independent medical practitioners.
