Fast-growing Denton County is considered part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and a small portion of Dallas is located in Denton County. Formed in 1846, the county seat is the city of Denton. The beautiful Denton County Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built in 1896 and contains the Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum.
The city of Denton is home to the University of North Texas. The UNT Mean Green football team plays at the new Apogee Stadium. When residents aren’t cheering on their favorite college football team, they are enjoying festivals such as the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival and the annual North Texas State Fair and Rodeo.
Denton has a lively music scene, largely based on UNT’s music program. Graduates of UNT include Meat Loaf, Roy Orbison, and Norah Jones.
