Bay Colony Neighborhood

Bay Colony is a brand new development on the western edge of Dickenson. Less than half of the single family homes are up but sales of both finished homes and lots are in progress. Still to be completed are a community recreation center, including separate adult and children’s swimming pools, a playground, and a daycare center. Homes in this development are built to be energy efficient, using environmentally friendly appliances and construction methods.

Strawberry Brook Lane, off of Calder Drive, is the main road and so far the only one with a name. Other roads have been plotted and they branch out from Strawberry Brook Lane and end in cul-de-sacs. Once complete, the lack of through traffic will make Bay Colony a quiet and pedestrian friendly place to live. Schools in the area include Calder Road and Bay Colony Elementary. Farther away towards downtown Dickenson are the Bay Area Charter Middle School, R D McAdams Junior High, and Dickenson High School. The latter is next to Ray Holbrook Park, offering baseball diamonds and picnic areas. All Nations Church is the closest house of worship. The First United Methodist, Faith Lutheran, and Lighthouse Baptist Churches are nearby.

The Chaparral Golf Club is to the southeast, as is Interstate 45, the main highway to Houston. Shops, restaurants, and services are all to the east. The closest are along the Farm-to-Market Road 517, including Walgreens and the Bayou Moon second hand shop. Traveling further east on this road leads to a Kroger market, a Redbox store and Starbucks. Following Interstate 45 south leads to a Wal-Mart Superstore and Mall of the Mainland with more shopping and dining opportunities.
