Las Flores Neighborhood

The Las Flores neighborhood is a slender triangle of land along North Zaragoza Road on the eastern edge of El Paso, Texas. Zaragosa Park is east of the neighborhood and offers a number of baseball, softball, and tee ball diamonds, as well as a soccer field, basketball court, and picnic areas. Las Flores is just off of Interstate 10, which offers direct access to the El Paso International Airport and the city beyond.

The neighborhood is about half residential areas, and it offers a number of apartments, some of which are larger, with amenities such as swimming pools and sun-decks. The upper left corner is taken up by the International Business College, the International Truck Driving School, and a small strip mall with an assortment of restaurants. The bottom third is filled with warehouses and businesses like the Auto Zone. The Blackie Chesher Park business complex and the Academy School of Careers are across from this commercial zone.

Public schools include Mission Valley Elementary, Valley View Middle, and Ysleta High School, all of which are located to the south of the neighborhood. Ysleta High School has a sizable baseball stadium, which is home field for the Ysleta Indians. The Templo Sion Church is in the northeast corner of Las Flores, and the Abundant Living Faith Center and the Iglesia Del Dilos Vivo are within a few blocks.

Northwest of Las Flores is Ascarate Park and its public golf course, which was designed by George Hoffman and opened in 1955. Ascarate Lake, which is within park boundaries, is a local fishing hole known for its largemouth bass. The park itself offers trails, picnic areas, barbecue grills, and playgrounds.
