Las Palmas Neighborhood

The Las Palmas neighborhood of El Paso, Texas, is bounded by Rojas Drive, Pendale Road, and George Dieter Drive. It has a neighborhood association whose extended boundaries reach past Pendale Road and on to Goodyear Drive. The boundaries also extend to Gateway Boulevard West, alongside Interstate 10. The Las Palmas Neighborhood Association represents approximately 931 homes and businesses in the area, as of 2011. Both single-family and multi-family housing are available.

Roadways in Las Palmas are mapped in an orderly fashion, though not into blocks. A number of these bear the names of well-known people, mostly sports figures. Pete Rose Drive shares the name of the former Major League Baseball player. Taffy Bagley Drive shares its name with an El Paso lawyer. Some who drive on Don Budge Drive will remember this name as the American tennis champion. Other well-known names found here include Fred Perry Drive, Trey Burton Drive, and James Watt Drive.

Highlands Regional Rehabilitation Hospital is a major presence in the community. This 41-bed facility is a major employer in the area. Another big employer is the nearby Education Service Center-Region 19, which serves 12 school districts and six charter schools in the El Paso area.

Within the extended boundaries of Las Palmas is the University of Phoenix’s East El Paso Learning Center. This complex offers flexible degree programs for working adults.
