Prado Neighborhood

Prado is a residential area 11 miles southeast of El Paso, Texas. The neighborhood lies on the eastern side of Highway 375; it extends east to Alamede Avenue and south to Padres Drive. Nearby schools include Ysleta Elementary School, Ysleta Middle School, and Ysleta High School. The high school holds athletic events at the nearby Hutchins Stadium.

Shopping is available nearby with a Walmart Supercenter located three miles south of the neighborhood. Other stores in the area include Zeke’s Pueblo Mexicano Supermarket, Big 8 Food Stores, and Candenas Grocery.

Ascarate Park, located six miles north of the Prado neighborhood, is the largest public park in El Paso with over 400 acres centered around a 44-acre lake. The grounds include 18-hole and 9-hole golf courses, walking trails, an indoor Olympic pool, and several ball fields. The lake is not suitable for swimming, but is stocked with channel catfish and rainbow trout for anglers. The Western Playland Amusement Park occupies a 16-acre parcel of the park.

The Tigua Indian Cultural Center lies two miles south of the Prado neighborhood off of Socorro Road. It provides the opportunity to view five centuries of Pueblo history and tradition. Traditional Tigua Bread is also for sale. The center includes mementos and artifacts, as well as a gift shop with jewelry and other items made by local artisans. Native American dances are performed by tribal youth accompanied by ancient Tigua songs; they are presented each weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
