El Paso at a Glance
Ridgecrest Neighborhood
Ridgecrest is a rather compact, oval-shaped neighborhood just north of the University of Texas El Paso campus. Part of this facility is the Providence Memorial Hospital, a teaching hospital for the medical school. Ridgecrest is in the foothills just west of the Franklin Mountains, north of downtown El Paso.
Parts of the neighborhood are well established with homes dating back to the 1940s. Over the years, newer developments have added more apartments to Ridgecrest, giving it a more well-rounded image. Some homes offer views of downtown El Paso. Mission Hills Park on Okeefe Drive to the southwest offers a tennis and basketball court, shaded picnic areas, and restroom facilities. The core of Ridgecrest is residential, with North Mesa Street on the western edge being the commercial zone.
Schools are all outside neighborhood boundaries. The closest is Mesita Elementary School to the south on North Stanton in the Kern Place neighborhood. To the north is the private El Paso Country Day School, off of North Mesa Street. Wiggs Middle School on Circle Drive and El Paso High School on East Schuster Avenue are less than two miles to the south. The El Paso Grace Korean Church on North Stanton Street, and the Grace Bible Fellowship on North Mesa Street are nearby.
Most of the restaurants, shops, and services are on the southern end of North Mesa Street leading to the University. Pizza Properties, Los Gallegos Restaurant, and Sunset Pizzaria, all on North Mesa Street on the edge of Ridgecrest, are within walking distance. Farther south is an assortment of fast food restaurants and local eateries with names like the Hoppy Monk and Oh Taco Grill. Sunland Park Mall is to the north via Interstate 10.
