Vista Del Sol East Neighborhood

Vista Del Sol East was developed beginning in the 1970s and the designers decided to name the streets after famous sports figures, starting with North Lee Trevino Drive on the neighborhood’s western edge. Tommy Aaron, Dale Douglas, and Robert Wynn are among those so honored. The fact that there is a small golf course snaking through the neighborhood seems most appropriate. Some homes, particularly those on Billy Casper Drive are in the center of the course. Vista Del Sol East offers both single family homes and apartments.

The area along Montwood Drive in the north is largely commercial. At the corner of Montwood Drive and George Dieter Drive, the eastern border is a mini-mall with both Target and Kmart, as well as Blockbuster, Denny’s Restaurant and an Applebee’s. Heading west on Montwood about a half mile leads to another corner mall with Albertsons, GNX and a seven screen movie theater. All along Montwood are services such as the Milan Salon and Day Spa, First Bank West, and Best Friends Grooming Shop & Pet Boutique. Fast food fanatics will find Arby’s, Wienerschnitzel, Carl’s Jr., and McDonald’s on this thoroughfare.

JM Hanks High School is also on Montwood Drive, just west of North Lee Trevino Drive. The Tierra Del Sol Elementary School is in the heart of the neighborhood on Tommy Aaron Drive. Balloon’s Day Care is on Montwood Drive across from Mike Hill Drive. Nearby houses of worship include Desert View United Church on Dale Douglas Drive and St Timothy Lutheran Church on Montwood Drive. The El Paso County Transit offers bus service along Montwood Drive, Trawood Drive, North Lee Trevino Drive, and George Dieter Drive.
