Fairfield, TX Apartments for Rent

Fairfield, Texas is located between Dallas and Houston, at the point where I-45 and US 84 intersect. The city was founded in 1851 on 100 acres when the location of the new city was chosen to be the county seat.

Farming and ranching are important to the city’s commerce, as is the coal industry. A majority of residents work in the production of lignite, or “brown coal,” and a large number of residents work in the prison, located nearby.

In order to mine the lignite, a team electric station was located in Fairfield in 1969; because the plant required the construction of a large body of water, Fairfield State Lake was created, and is now known as one of the best fishing lakes in the state.

According to the United States Census Bureau, Fairfield has a total area of four and one-half square miles, and as of 2010 the population of the city is 3,705. Almost one-third of the households here have children under the age of 18 living with them. The median household income in Fairfield is somewhat under the national average at $28,636.

A number of gifted athletes hail from Fairfield, including Tony Brackens, who played college football for the Texas Longhorns and played in the NFL for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Winfred Tubbs, another well-known football player first played for the Texas Longhorns and went on to the NFL, first with the New Orleans Saints and then the San Francisco 49ers. Nanceen Perry represented Fairfield as a member of the US Track team in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, alongside star Marion Jones.
