Honey Grove, TX Houses for Rent

Although the name conjures up images of a stout cartoon bear hugging a pot of honey, Honey Grove is a charming, historic city located about 90 miles northeast of Dallas and 22 miles southwest of Paris, not far from the Oklahoma border.

When Davy Crockett camped here in 1836 on his way to join the Texas Army in San Antonio, he called the area “honey grove” in the letters he wrote because the hollow trees held large amounts of honey. His friend, Samuel Erwin, decided to move here in 1842, and soon others followed Erwin to the tiny town of Honey Grove, which was finally incorporated in 1873.

The city is a small gem, earning its nickname as the “sweetest city in Texas.” The downtown are contains historic buildings, brick-lined streets, and wide sidewalks, perfect for an afternoon of window-shopping. Elegant Victorian homes dot the area, along with many historical markers.

With restaurants with names like Doc’s Corner, Country Meat & Produce, Honey Bee’s Donuts, and Thompson’s Fast Lane, Honey Grove is everything you’d expect from a small Texas city – with a few surprises. Honey Grove has two city parks, and Caddo National Grasslands is just 10 miles north. Lake Crockett and Lake Coffee Mill are both ideal for boating and fishing. For those who love golfing, the Honey Grove Golf Club is a beautiful course.

If you’re looking for a charming Texas city with an old-West vibe, check out apartments for rent in Honey Grove – it is one “sweet” location.
