Greater Heights Neighborhood
Greater Heights, located in northwest-central Houston, Texas, is often referred to simply as, “The Heights.” This neighborhood is located in zip code 77008 and is in Harris County. The community is bordered on the north by North Loop West Freeway and on the south by Interstate 10. The boundary on the west is West TC Jester Boulevard, and on the east the boundary is Interstate 45.
The Greater Heights neighborhood is one of the earliest planned communities in Texas. About 70% of the population is made up of young people. The small-town feel, the wide tree-lined streets, and the homes dating back to the early 1900s are all characteristics of this community. This individualistic and quirky community brings in a diverse population of artists, foodies, and architecture and theater buffs alike. The Heights is served by the Houston Independent School District and offers many fine educational options for elementary, high school and charter schools in the immediate area.
The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, TX operates the Heights Transit Center, which offers bus transportation to downtown Houston and the surrounding areas. The central location of this community makes traveling to downtown Houston for work or play a simple, trouble-free commute.
The Heights has multiple parks for residents to enjoy. Milroy Park and Community Center, has lighted tennis courts and a playground. Love Park and Community Center has an outdoor basketball court, a walking and bicycle trail, playground, a lighted sports field, and a swimming pool. Love Community Center has an indoor gymnasium, meeting rooms, and a weight room.
The Heights is also home to a World War II Museum and memorial, which commemorates and honors the 224 servicemen and the 2,549 veterans from the Houston Heights area who served their country during World War II.
