Southwest Houston Neighborhood

Southwest Houston is a large chunk of the city’s residential and commercial development, with 60 square miles of neighborhoods and communities. This part of the fourth-largest city in the country is also one of the oldest suburban areas in Houston.

With so many neighborhoods in this area, there are tons of enjoyable features. Southwest Houston offers many choices for shopping and dining. One of the largest shopping centers in Texas is located right here – The Galleria. The Galleria has 375 fine stores and eateries, two Westin Hotels, and a spectacular indoor ice skating rink. With stores like Tiffany’s, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Ave, and Louis Vuitton – just to name a few – it will more than please the average shopper. All the restaurants at the Galleria will make it a difficult choice when deciding on dinner plans. The Galleria offers everything from the casual Rain Forest Café to the fine dining of the Oceanaire Seafood Room. If that doesn’t satisfy your Texas-sized appetite, walk on over to The Cheesecake Factory for desert.

Southwest Houston has one of the best medical facilities in the country – The Texas Medical Center. This medical complex is not only the best place to have your medical conditions treated, but also trains some of the best medical student minds in the country. The Texas Medical Center has four nursing schools, as well as schools of dentistry, public health, pharmacy, and almost every other health-related career there is. It is where one of the first – and still the largest – air paramedic services was created. More heart surgeries are performed here than anywhere else in the world.

The neighborhoods of this area are less than 30 minutes from Downtown Houston and have access to most of the major highways in Houston. Getting from your community to anywhere in Houston is a snap.
