Jefferson, TX Apartments for Rent

Brick streets, horse-drawn carriages, steam paddle boats – it may bring to mind the South during the 19th century, but these things can still be found in the historic city of Jefferson, Texas. The city is amazingly well-preserved, with hundreds of historic landmarks. Jefferson was founded in 1841 and served as a riverboat town. It was one of the most important ports in Texas between 1845 and 1872, and it was the sixth largest town in the state.

Today, Jefferson is a tourism hub, complete with museums, historic home tours, a bevy of bed and breakfasts, entertainment, and ghost tours. The town has an abundance of antique stores, shops, and restaurants.

The Big Cypress Bayou weaves in and around Jefferson and is part of the largest Cypress forests in the world. Other natural features include the Red River, which flows through Jefferson, and nearby Caddo Lake. Caddo Lake State Park is just east of Jefferson and is a popular fishing destination with more than 70 species of fish.

Jefferson is located roughly 39 miles northeast of Longview and about 50 miles northwest of Shreveport, Louisiana.
