Gillette Area Neighborhood

Gillette Area is a community in southern San Antonio, Texas, less than 15 minutes from the center of the city. This neighborhood is bound by Interstate 410 on the south, South Zarzamora on the west, Commercial Avenue on the east, and West Ansley Boulevard and west Ansley Street on the north. The community’s namesake—Gillette Boulevard—traverses the neighborhood from west to east, and the local railway runs through this neighborhood, as well. The zip code for this Bexar County community is 78224.

This community is mostly residential. Much of the neighborhood is undeveloped green space, which creates a somewhat rural feel and offers opportunities for children to run and play. Several churches and a few commercial offerings are situated within neighborhood bounds also. Most of this neighborhood is lined with sidewalks, making it quite pedestrian friendly and providing opportunities for biking, jogging, and dog walking.

Ramirez Parks is a popular community park on the west side of Gillette Area. It offers a community center, pedestrian path, ballfields, playground equipment, basketball court, volleyball courts, and more. There is also plenty of open green space for games or picnicking. There are many other parks within five miles of this community that provide additional outdoor recreation options.

There are plenty of commercial offerings near this community, and residents enjoy easy access to the necessities that include a supermarket, pharmacy, and several eateries. Residents are also just a short drive from Southwest General Hospital, a convenient health care option and significant area employer.

Gillette Area is a popular neighborhood among college students and faculty, with the Texas A&M University of San Antonio and Palo Alto Community College situated within walking distance to the west.
