Shearer Hills Ridgeview Neighborhood

Shearer Hills/Ridgeview is a large neighborhood tucked among of San Antonio’s largest and most popular commercial establishments. It is also near one of the city’s largest golf courses. The southeastern corner of the neighborhood sits next to The Quarry shopping area, while North Star Mall lies in the northwestern corner.

Residential pockets are confined to the center of the neighborhood, where houses are densely packed. Homes are mostly rectangular, ranch-style houses fit for singles, families, or couples. Yards are small but green, and streets are lined with trees. Because of the neighborhood’s proximity to heavily trafficked areas, pedestrians and cyclists should consider using the Via Metropolitan Transit system.

Located in the 78216 ZIP code, the Shearer Hills/Ridgeview community is surrounded by major San Antonio thoroughfares. Blanco Road makes up the western boundary, while Interstate Highway 410/Loop 410 acts as the northern border. Basse Road is the southern boundary, while the eastern boundary follows the winding McAllister Freeway/US Highway 281.

The Olmos Basin Golf Course was built in 1963 and is home to a 6,870-yard course where golfers can play like the pros. Next door, the San Pedro Driving Range allows golfers to practice their swing or beginners to get a feel for the game.

Shearer Hills/Ridgeview is best known for the shopping establishments it borders. North Star Mall, famous for having a three-story pair of cowboy boots in front that are lit up with Christmas lights during the holidays, is one of the city’s most popular shopping centers. Inside the two-story structure are stores such as Macy’s, Dillard’s, the Disney Store, and several smaller boutiques like Claire’s and Journeys. The Quarry, on the opposite side of the neighborhood, is home to a movie theater, a Borders, and several unique stores and restaurants.
