Cable Westwood, San Antonio Neighborhood

Cable Westwood is a neighborhood in western San Antonio, just north of the Lackland Air Force Base and Training Annex. The neighborhood extends to West Military Drive on the west, Marbach Road on the north, Arvil Avenue on the east, and Old U.S. 90 on the south. Pinn Road traverses the western half of the neighborhood, running from north to south. Interstate 410/State Highway 16 runs north/south within a half mile of the neighborhood and to the west. Cable Westwood is part of Bexar County, within the 78227 ZIP code. Area communities include Meadow Village, United Westwood, and Lakeland Terrace.

Besides proximity to the Air Force base, the Cable Westwood neighborhood has several attractive features. Two small parks, Rodriguez Park and Levi Strauss Park, are situated just outside neighborhood bounds, to the east. The former is a county park with several amenities, including softball and soccer fields and a pavilion that can accommodate up to 100 people. Next to the parks is the Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium, home of a minor league baseball team, the San Antonio Missions. Due to its nearness to the base, the stadium features Military Nights on Friday nights, and planes landing and taking off are a common sight for stadium-goers.

Thanks in part to its proximity to several major area roadways, the Cable Westwood area offers several convenient shopping options. The Westlakes Shopping Center, situated within a half mile of the neighborhood, has recently been torn down to make room for new construction. However, the Westover Marketplace still draws plenty of area shoppers. Situated at the intersection of I-410 and State Highway 151, within a few miles to the northwest of the neighborhood, this shopping center features a Target, Cracker Barrel, Office Depot, Radio Shack, T.G.I. Friday’s, and Buffalo Wild Wings, among other shopping and dining options.
