Woodlawn Hills Neighborhood
Woodlawn Hills is a neighborhood in northwest San Antonio, within Bexar County. It is bounded by State Highway 421 Spur to the north and east, and Benrus Boulevard to the west. Its southern boundaries are less conspicuous, but it extends past Freeman Drive and West Woodlawn Avenue. Area communities include Jefferson, Third World, Culebra Park, Donaldson Terrace, and Ingram Hills, among others. Woodlawn Hills is situated in the 78228 zip code area, north of the downtown area.
Two institutions of higher learning can be found just outside of the Woodlawn Hills neighborhood. These include the International Bible College (to the west) and St. Mary’s University (to the south). A popular retail area, Bandera Shopping Center, is located just outside of the Woodlawn Hills neighborhood, to the east.
The closest park of a decent size, Woodlawn Lake Park, is located a few miles to the east, surrounding Woodlawn Lake. This popular area park spans 62 acres and includes a 30-acre artificial lake. The scenic lake is surrounded by trails that make this a popular place for walkers and joggers. Boating isn’t allowed, but it’s a popular site for freshwater fishing. Among the other amenities are a pavilion, tennis courts, softball field, gym, and party house. The city holds its annual July Fourth fireworks display here.
Although there is plenty to see and do locally when you live in Woodlawn Hills, the easy access to the nearby interstate (about two miles west) opens up the possibilities to explore even further. From here, residents can easily access many of San Antonio’s prime shopping, dining, and entertainment options.
