Stretching from Waynesboro, Virginia, to Ashville, North Carolina, the 469 mile road and the mountain ridge it follows is a National Park. Lynchburg residents assess the park from Highway 501. Visitors can walk through various sites that have actual homes and agricultural artifacts displayed in the various time periods of the early settlers of the area. Cherokee traditions are also displayed. Early morning visitors will be rewarded with glimpses of some of the wildlife that make their home in the park. There are overlook stops along the road for cars to pull off to enjoy and photograph the incredible view.
