The Tate Springs neighborhood of Lynchburg, Virginia, is located off Langhorne Road, which is sometimes called Highway 501. The neighborhood is built around Clifton Street which terminates in a dead end on one side and has its outlet to Langhorne Road on the other. The neighborhood is bordered by the Blackwater Creek Natural Area which gives the housing development a natural park-like feeling. Homes in Tate Springs are predominately brick set on large lots with plenty of mature trees. Single detached homes are mixed with townhouses in several places on Clifton. The streets are tree-lined and shady. The landscaping is very attractive. There are no sidewalks. The Tate Springs neighborhood is in the 24501 zip code area.

Tate Springs Road and Langhorne Road are two of the main roads that serve the Tate Springs neighborhood. Both roads are busy and lined with local businesses. Holy Cross School is located across from the neighborhood. The Centra Lynchburg General Hospital is also located on Tate Springs Road.

The Blackwater Creek Natural Area is a 300 acre greenspace that is part of the James River Heritage Trail. The eight miles of trail wanders through many scenic areas including a waterfall, an abandoned railroad tunnel, and a bridge to Percival’s Island. Blackwater Creek also connects to the Ruskin Freer National Preserve which is a plant and animal sanctuary.

The central business district of Lynchburg is just a short drive from Tate Springs. The business district offers many amenities such as the Lynchburg Amtrak on Kemper Street and historical sites such as the Old City Cemetery.
