Colonial Avenue Area Neighborhood

The Colonial Avenue Area neighborhood of Roanoke, Virginia is a post-World War II suburb, and the architecture of the single family homes and multi-family dwellings certainly reflect that era. The residential portions of the neighborhood are tucked away from the traffic on the nearby Colonial Avenue and Interstate 581.

The neighborhood’s northern boundary is Brandon Avenue, and its southern boundary follows the Roanoke County Line. The eastern boundary is Franklin Road Southwest, and the western boundary is Brambleton Avenue Southwest.

Colonial Avenue runs directly through the center of this neighborhood, and hosts the area’s fine dining and shopping. More shopping and eating establishments lie on Brandon Avenue at the Towers Shopping Center.

The Colonial Avenue Area neighborhood’s eastern boundary borders the corner of South Roanoke Park. Some good fishing has been reported in the area. A few more miles away sits Mill Mountain Park, which offers many hiking and biking trails, as well as the Roanoke Zoo.

Colonial Avenue is not just shopping and dining. Both the Fishburn Park Magnet Elementary School and the Virginia Western Community College lie along the street as well. Also on Colonial Avenue is the Virginia Western Theatre, which presents classic and contemporary plays and music free to the public. The James Madison Middle School lies just off Colonial Avenue.

With it’s proximity to Downtown Roanoke and all the activities in the area, the Colonial Avenue Area neighborhood is a great place to live.
