Morningside Neighborhood

Located on the southeast side of the city of Roanoke, the neighborhood of Morningside is an interesting contrast of mostly single family homes which reside on streets that are mostly tree-lined. The area is also noted for its hilly terrain that gives the neighborhood the appearance of encompassing beautiful winding roads.

Morningside is bordered on its north by two other neighborhoods, those of Kenwood and Riverdale. Within its zip code (24013) are two schools, Morningside Elementary and Jackson Middle School. There is also the centrally located Jackson Park Library, which is part of a larger Jackson Park complex.

Shopping is varied, but plentiful within the area. Small businesses dot the area, with two larger shopping centers being the primary outlet for residents, those being Bennington Place Shopping center and Parkside Plaza. Also located off 220 is the City Market Shopping Center.

Parks and recreation also play a significant role in the landscape of the Morningside community. Both Morningside and Jackson Park give residents ample space to enjoy leisure activities. Jackson Park is perhaps the hub of the neighborhood, due to the fact that it is home to not only ball fields, but also to the Jackson Park Library and the Buena Vista Recreation Center, which has become a gathering place for residents.

For the exercise enthusiast, Mill Mountain Star Trail and the Tinker Creek Greenway are nearby attractions to walk and enjoy nature and history at one time. For the medical needs of the community, both Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital and the Roanoke Memorial Hospital are situated within close distance of the neighborhood to handle any emergencies that might arise.
