Factoria Neighborhood
Factoria is a neighborhood in the southern part of Bellevue, Washington, a suburb of Seattle. The borders of the area are Interstate 90 on the north, Interstate 405 to the west, Coal Creek Parkway on the south, and Newport Way on the east. The residential portion of Factoria is almost entirely made up of apartments running along Factoria Boulevard, across from the Factoria Mall.
The Factoria area’s first European settlers were loggers. In the 1920s, the area was the site of rabbit meat canning plants. When the Interstate 90 floating bridge was constructed over Lake Washington, the area boomed. With further highway construction, Factoria found itself at the intersection of two main Interstate highways: 405 and 90, and development continued. Factoria was annexed to the city of Bellevue in 1993 and is now a mixed-use area of industry, commerce and residences.
Factoria Mall contains shops, office buildings, the Newport Corporate Center’s six tower development, and many restaurants and businesses. A movie theater is also on site. The Mall, which was first called Factoria Square, opened in 1977 and is anchored by national chains like Cold Stone Creamery and Old Country Buffet. Local shops also occupy some of the 40 retail spaces. A DMV, post office and after-school tutoring center are conveniently located here.
Students attend the Bellevue Public School, which includes some of the state’s highest rated high schools. Bellevue Community College is located nearby. Commuters find easy access to buses from both Metro Transit and Sound Transit. The area is easy to access via the major highways of both Interstate 405 and 90.
