Issaquah Highlands Neighborhood
Issaquah Highlands is a master-planned community in Issaquah, Washington. The community is a residential area that combines shops and homes with woods and trails. The Highlands is bike-friendly, with many paths, sidewalks, and trails for non-motorized vehicles. More than 1,500 acres is open space in this neighborhood, which covers a total of 2,200 acres, 490 in the city and the rest in King County. More than 3,000 homes are planned for the area, along with 2 million square feet of commercial space, and 400,000 of retail. An elementary school will be in the community as well. Both single-family and multi-family residences are being built in Issaquah Highlands. Commuters can utilize a park-and-ride on site to commute to Seattle or Eastside on Metro Transit Buses.
Golf courses dot the area as well. In winter, Issaquah Highlands is a half-hour drive to the ski slopes on Snoqualmie Summit, with its 435 inches of snow per year. Businesses along High Street include restaurants, retail stores, and entertainment venues. The Shops at Issaquah Highlands is on Highlands Drive and easily accessed from I 90.
Issaquah was settled by Europeans who came to the area to mine in the nearby mountains. When the mines ran out, they turned to logging. The area is now a gateway to Snoqualmie Pass and a stopping point before journeying across the Cascade Mountains. The Cascade Mountain range spans Washington, Oregon, and Canada. I 90, which passes through the region, begins in Seattle.
