Fremont Neighborhood

The Seattle, Washington community of Fremont has an unofficial slogan, “De Libertas Quirkas” or “freedom to be peculiar.” For this town, peculiar means a giant rocket, a rare statue of Vladimir Lenin, and the Fremont Troll Monument that resides under the Aurora Bridge. The community is alive with culture, art, and history.

Fremont is located north of downtown Seattle, just west of Highway 99 and just north of Salmon Bay, which in turn runs into Lake Union to the east. Fremont is less than a 20-minute drive to downtown Seattle.

Fremont’s eclectic feel, modern conveniences, and convenient location all draw people into this community. Its variety of housing styles range from upscale new condos, to older homes with classic charm. Plenty of apartments fill the area as well, truly offering something for everyone.

Residents here can check out the local landmarks, peruse public art, enjoy live theater, rock out to the local music scene, or attend the weekly Fremont Market, which takes place each and every Sunday, rain or shine, hosting over 200 vendors from around the area. The whole area shuts down every year for Fremont’s hugely popular Summer Solstice Parade.

A fun activity that the whole family will enjoy is a tour of the Theo Chocolate Factory, located right in Fremont. This small factory is the nation’s first organic, fair-trade chocolate factory, and its twice-daily tours are sure to get visitors’ mouths watering.

Woodland Park Zoo and Woodland Park are situated just minutes north of Fremont. The 92-acre zoo features more than 300 different animal species, and offers a variety of daily educational activities for adults and children alike. The nearby Woodland Park offers visitors disc golf, horse shoe pits, lawn bowling, soccer fields, tennis courts, swimming at Green Lake, theatre, walking and biking trails, baseball fields, a skate park, bike jumps, and picnicking areas.
