Georgetown is a neighborhood about five miles south of downtown Seattle, Washington. It is part of King County, in the 98108 zip code. This community is officially the city’s oldest neighborhood, dating back to 1904. It was its own city until 1910, when it became part of Seattle. This neighborhood is largely residential, but it also has a thriving business district, and industrial areas nearby.
This community is bounded by the river on the west, South Lucile Street on the north, and Interstate 5 on the east. It includes a good portion of the Boeing Field – King County International Airport on the south. The South Seattle Community College – Georgetown Campus and Georgetown Playfield are also situated within neighborhood bounds.
Georgetown is known for being a historic and creative community, offering an annual arts and garden tour. Typically held in July, this event draws more than 3,000 visitors, offering tours of art galleries, studios, and gardens, as well as live music performances and a BBQ.
Residents of Georgetown are just a short drive from many area attractions. Jefferson Park is located roughly one mile to the northeast, adjacent to the VA Puget Sound. This popular city park is situated on Beacon Hill and offers scenic views of Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains, and the downtown area. Spanning more than 52 acres, this park is well known for its golf course and also offers a community center and unique lawn bowling green.
For more shopping, dining, entertainment, and nightlife options, residents of Georgetown may make the short trip north into downtown Seattle. In addition to many cultural attractions, the downtown area also hosts the Seattle University campus and several major medical centers.
