Northwest Spokane Neighborhood

Northwest Spokane is a neighborhood that no one ever has to leave. There is so much to do. It is bordered on the north by the Spokane River following down N 7 Mile Road to N 9 Mile Road and continuing down West Frances Avenue (Highway 291). The eastern border is North Ash Street to North Walnut Street. The southern border is East Maxwell until it hits the Spokane River. The western border is the Spokane River.

Sports fans, especially those who like football, will enjoy the Joe Albi Stadium, formally known as “Memorial Stadium.” This outdoor stadium opened in 1950 and has seen lots of action. If football isn’t a favorite sport, the Downriver Disc Golf Course offers an alternative. There are greens and “holes” but there are no golf clubs or balls. Instead, a disc that is slightly smaller and heavier than a Frisbee is thrown. The golf rules are the same.

Audubon Park on North Milton Avenue is 26-acres and has baseball fields and volleyball and basketball courts. There is a splash pool, picnic tables, and trails to wander. It is adjacent to Finch Elementary School.

The Shadle Park is on West Wellesley Avenue. It has baseballs fields and a playground for the kids. There is an aquatic center with a splash pool and a swimming pool. Next to the park is the library. On the corner is the Shadle High School.

West Wellesley Avenue is also the home of the Shadle Shopping Center that has a Wal-Mart, a Safeway, and a Starbucks. There are several churches on West Wellesley and in the surrounding areas. The Spokane Transit System has many routes in the area for the convenience of their residents.

The Northwest Spokane neighborhood has single-family homes and apartment complexes giving residents a lot of housing opportunities.
