North York Neighborhood

Just outside of the city of York, the North York neighborhood combines the feeling of the city with a suburban feel. North York is a small neighborhood with plenty of homes and a few businesses within it. The residents of North York often travel to the city for shopping, dining, and attractions. Many of the homes here are made of traditional red brick, providing wonderful character to an area steeped in history.

The York County Heritage Trust makes it their job to ensure that the history of the area lives on. There are many guided tours that are provided by the Trust to show visitors and residents alike the most historical aspects of the city. The Agricultural and Industrial Museum in York has exhibits that show the contributions York County has made toward industrial and agricultural progress. The Historical Society Museum is a great place to go to see many historical artifacts and exhibits relating to the history of the area. These museums, along with with historical events, bring many tourists into town throughout the year — a major source of revenue.

Prospect Hill Cemetery is one of the best parts of North York for history buffs. The cemetery is the last resting place for a number of civil war soldiers. In fact, from the moment of entering the cemetery, you will notice the numerous Civil War statues and relics that stand in honor of those who fought and were buried here. A number of books provide an interesting guide to the graves found at Prospect Hill.

Recreation is also a major part of North York with a number of options nearby. Farquhar Park is one of the more popular locations frequented by many people around York. The park provides a number of options for active visitors including tennis, basketball, and swimming.
